I’m thinking it would be nice for players to make comments on the map. I was reading about some Old-School Revival play styles where players are responsible for drawing their own map. That might be another ball of wax.
But maybe players a halfway point can be where players can plop down a comment on the map that points to a space or range of spaces to note things like traps.

Seconding this. Would be nice to make invisible tokens (or basically just labels) for the DM for things like:
- Labeling rooms
- Labeling secret entrances, traps, or invisible magic barriers
- Leaving notes for encounters in each room (like “goblins ambush here” or whatever)
- Making markers for hidden objects, items, or clues
- Hidden enemies
- Tracking some info off the map for things like initiative or health
