Is there any way to label a map area such as “Cargo Bay” or “Medical Lab”?
Right now seems like the only way to do this is by making a token.
Tokens are the only way to do this right now (if we don’t count using background images or writing text with the fill/edge tool 
). There’s no concrete plans I’m working on as an alternative, though I’ve given thought to ideas such as labeled regions, GM-only notes, and transparent tokens.

Ooh. Transparent Tokens. I really, really like that idea.
I think that’s my vote. A text marker that acts like a token snapped to a single square. That seems a very shmeppy solution to the problem.
